Storage and Extraction

SERA manufactures, integrates and installs a wide range of equipment to select the best technology able to meet the constraints of each project

The extraction system of storage silos is in the heart of the transformation process and the feeding of biomass boilers.

The choice of the extraction system is essential to ensure the best availabilitypossible, thehomogenization of biomass, whileminimizing operating costs.

The SERA technical offer allows many opportunities, that’s the reason why it is important to analyze all the constraints to determine the system to be implemented. The impact on the civil engineeringis an important parameter to be considered. Our experienced engineers are at your disposal to help you during the preliminary studies.

SERA is a pioneer in introducing this technology in France, the tubed screw is particularly suitable for storage silos of 2500 m3 without volume limit. The operating cost is the lowest of all technologies currently known with consumption 70% lower than the conventional extracting screw systems or hydraulic ladders.

Its low power consumption is directly related to low mechanical strengths that will proportionally reduce the equipment wear.

The extraction has all the advantages of extraction screws at the bottom of silo (FIFO, direct access to stock, simple maintenance access) while allowing the biomass homogenization and reducing the engineering impact. Unlike conventional extraction screws, uncased, the tubed screw causes no load on structures. The screw, protected by the tube becomes a simple handling augers and does not have to bear the stock load.

Despite appearances, this system perfectly meets the needs of a poorly calibrated material. The references show that this technology supports a heterogeneous biomass with a significant particle size.

The biomass is brought into the silo from above, this naturally creates different product layers according to deliveries (dry wood, wet wood, wood chips, screening waste, pallet waste class A, various wood species, etc.). With the tubed screws, these layers are mixed thus giving to the fuel a better consistency, both at the PCI level as moisture. This will allow better combustion stability during operating and therefore a better control of air emissions, particularly NOx management.

With many references, including feeding of cogeneration boiler boiler with major energy providers, SERA offers you the guarantee of optimum operation by its expertise. This type of circular silo reduces the covered area and and limits the thermal radiation with concrete shells.

Our experience is important as the shape of the silo requires to be fully conversant with bridging risks, access to the silo and constraints related to containment.. If the circular silo is certainly the most used for the bulk, with wood biomass, it is essential to contact a specialist such as SERA because contraries are very different.

Originally developed for loading wood chips into trucks, it was adapted to meet the need for the feeding storage of wood biomass boilers. It has the advantage of allowing the filling and the automatic spreading of the silo while feeding the boiler.

The system being above material, the power consumption and wear are greatly reduced.

It is generally recommended for storage of less than 2 500 m 3 because the cell width of 5m limits the storage volume.

By multiplying the modules, the impact of steel frame and civil engineering will reduce the suitability of the choice of this system, which, moreover, is not FIFO. With a moist matter, it is necessary to install at least 2 cells in order to achieve the FIFO.
